Fun Day Trips from NY

What could be more refreshing than taking a day-long trip on your day off? A short tour that is not really a vacation and doesn’t concern complex planning and organization, and yet gives you the full pleasure of having a good time with your family and friends, and seeing new beautiful places and sites.  Just a short drive by car, metro or bike away, you can find yourself discovering new people, places, sights, sounds and tastes.

Here are a few great ideas for planning a 1 day trip from NY:

Visit Short Hills, New Jersey

Greenwood Gardens is a secluded and pastoral location, suitable for arts and culture buffs, as well as nature lovers.  The garden itself since the beginning of the 1900s, but has been open for the public only from April 2014, after some years of renovation.

This is a magical location, tranquil and beautiful, that is oriented for people looking for a relaxing trip. In the gardens you can tour the moss covered paths, ornamental trees and shrubs, and wildlife meadows. The gardens are designed in the arts and crafts approach, featuring Italianate garden terraces, grottoes, and hidden delightful natural sanctuaries.

Home to the annual fall Applefest, this village is a destination for foodies, as well as wine, liquors, spirits and hard sider lovers. The picturesque scenery, combined with local foods and culture, makes a great hideout from the hustle and bustle of the city. Take a Trip to Atlantic City, New Jersey

Though damaged on Hurricane Sandy, the casino town is now alive and well, with the destroyed boardwalks replaced by new, and the lively atmosphere back on track. And even if you don’t plan to end your day by playing blackjack, you’ll have plenty to do. There are new volleyball courts, and 2 new art sites for the public arranged by the Artlantic project, featuring large scale organic sculptures that are renewed constantly and evolving.  On August 13, 2014, you can catch the annual Atlantic City Airshow, and stroll on the sand while watching vintage aircrafts take belly dropping maneuvers and dives above the ocean.
